THANKSGIVING!

so, as you American folk know, thanksgiving time is upon us. and when i say 'us,' really i mean 'you,' because the Chinese have no idea of what Thanksgiving is, and really, why should they... sometimes it's hard to get out of my ethnocentric mindset and remember than most of our holidays in the States are merely that: ONLY IN THE STATES...

anywho, this week our students are learning about Thanksgiving and the thought behind it...

well, mine aren't because i'm having them do presentations this week revolving around advertisements they enjoy watching...

but my roomie, Ryan, is teaching his froshies all about it.

so, remember when you were in Jr. High School and you cut out those turkeys and leaves and then wrote on them what you were thankful for? yeah, that's what Ryan had his college freshman doing... which really, i can't blame him, since their maturity level is about Jr. High anyway, which is another topic wholly for a rant some other day!

anywho, he brought home the poster-board that they pasted their leaves to, and man, it's priceless!

seriously, to me, there is nothing funnier than written, broken English! i dunno what it is, but it kills me!

here's a look at a few...

first off, we got 'i'm thankful for my parents and myself.' - okay, a bit self-centered, but what are ya gonna do?

next, 'i'm thankful for my family give me' - give me...? give me..."

'i'm thankful for my father give me have going to school.' - i know what you meant, but funny anyway.

'i'm thankful for my sisiter she give me love (i don't know what this word is) happiness.' - i like this one because she had to give herself lines so it would be strait! man, talk about O.C.D.!

'i'm thankful for everybody because have yours i'm not alone.' - oh man, sad and funny at the same time!

'i'm thankful for my parents friends, my lover.' - uh, i don't really know what to say to this one.

and finaly, my personal fave: 'i'm thankful for my family give me foods!' - i wish your family give me foods too! i haven't had good, whole grain fiber in like, 3 months!

oh man, awesome! well, hopefully more holiday hilarity on the way!

Funny my friend, very funny.
As a representative of the world outside the US and China, I can tell you that Norway doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving.
Hmmm.. whole-grain, we have plenty of that, you should come.

I gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed by the limited scope of items that your roommate's students are thankful for. Surely they have learned words for "communism", "dust masks", "MSG", and "censorship", no?

And Ole, I think we met once at CC. Are you still in the states? Still making skate vids? Still causing trouble with crazy roommate Al? Ahhh the memories. If Jev is ever invited to come to Norway, i totally want to come too - i hear that you have some awesome fjords there, and probably lots of other things with the letter J in them.

Oh, and I'm thankful for people's moms that comment on their son's blogs... where are the Jan comments these days? :)

ha ha ha! no doubt! where the heck is my mumsie's comments? i think she is afraid of embarassing me or incriminating me by typing my name... she generally sticks to emails, but i do indeed miss her comments, they always bring a smile to my face!

and m00n, i think maybe you are thinking of Lasse... although, you may have met Ole sometime too. Ole is my camp connect, and Lasse my CC (Finland). either way, Ole IS the Norway hook up, and yes, i plan to take him up on it sometime! and you know, a friend of mine is a friend of yours! right fellas?!?!

It is exactly true that Mumsie sticks to emails as she is too prone to inserting foot thereinto when opening mouth! But she wants you to know that she's ever Thankful for Scuba-Doo-Ba-Doo and his many friends & for the lustrous lunar one in particular for getting this blogger back on-line! It is pure joy to read & see what Scubie is up to! Jan F.

Ack! Well I sure feel a bit silly... exposing my ignorance to the entire blogosphere! How utterly embarrassing! Oh well, its not the first time, and likely won't be the last - I can only blame Jev for having so many darn friends!

So yeah... Ole - my bad. I'm sure that Norway is way cooler than lousy Finland could ever be.

And Lasse, uh, my bad. Nevermind about that Norway thing - Finland totally puts Norway to shame, for real.

OK, that's settled. Happy Turkey Day!

we do have beautifull fjords. All are welcome. Finland has a lot of lakes, I've only been there once.
I'm sure I'd be great in a skate movie...

peace
